Ballistic Nylon

Ballistic nylon is a synthetic nylon fabric. Used in the manufacture  of a variety of items, including tool belts, jackets, protective curtains, and other items for use in industrial applications. It can also be used in conjunction with Kevlar to manufacture bullet-proof vests. The material is woven from nylon yarns of various denier (weight), with the double weave 1050 denier fabric being most durable for its weight level. It is resistant to abrasion and tearing, and is backed with polyurethane (which aids in waterproofing), making it the perfect fabric for protective applications.

FCB Bag Filter Housings and “BIB” Filter Bags

“FCB” bag filter housings

Developed to work with industry-standard double length filter bags, as well as with the unique “BIB” high surface area filter bag.  “FCB” bag filter housings are offered in a large number of alternative configurations

Operating Pressure
• Standard unit: 750 kPa (tested at 1125 kPa)
• High Pressure unit: 1000 kPa (tested at 1500 kPa)

Materials of Construction
The “FCB” range is available in carbon steel, 304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel. Carbon steel units are supplied untreated internally, with primer and two coats of  enamel painting externally. Stainless steel units are supplied in glass bead blast, matt industrial finish. In all cases, the internal bag-retaining basket is in 304 stainless steel.

Cover Securing Mechanism
• Standard “FCB” housings: 6 gripnut closures.
• High Pressure “FCB” housings: 8 gripnut closures.
• Swingbolt  closure by special order

Connections
• 50mm BSP male threaded
• or table 1000/3 flanges in sizes 50, 80 or 100mm nominal bore
• Almost any commercially available type of connector can be
  supplied.

All housings are automatically supplied with:
• 1 x vent (1/4” plugged socket)
• 1 x drain (1/2” plugged socket)
• 2 x gauge ports (1/4” plugged sockets)

Alternative Configurations
For higher flow rates the “FCB” range of bag housing can be offered, to special order, with as many as 13 bags in a single housing.  These units are customised to customer requirements.

“BIB” Range of Filter Bags

This range of unique type BIB filter bags is designed to have 90% more surface area than a standard double length filter bag.

Since both the dirt-holding capacity and the flow rate which a filter bag can accommodate are a function of the bag’s surface area, the 90% increase in surface area over conventional bags which the BIB bag offers,  ensures a substantial  increase in dirt-holding capacity as well as permitting a flow rate through the bag of nearly double that permitted by a standard filter bag.

The type BIB filter bag works with a specifically designed bag-retaining basket which locates the bag in the filter housing and provides the mechanical strength needed to support the filter cloth. Where required, a retro-fit basket can often be supplied to allow a conventional bag housing to be converted to accept a BIB style bag, thereby greatly increasing the filter’s performance and lengthening the intervals between bag changeouts.

Specifications & Materials
The type BIB filter bags can be supplied in polyester and polypropylene needlefelt filter cloth, as well as nylon or polyester monofilament filter cloth. They can also be supplied in “single” and “double” lengths. They are availablein nominal filtration ratings of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 micron as standard, as well as in other micron ratings to special order.

Maximum water flow rate at 30ºC through a “double length” type BIB filter bag at a clean-bag pressure drop of <10 kPa is 50 m3/h in a housing with 80mm nominal bore connections or 80 m3/h in a housing with 100mm nominal bore connections.

Pressure drop over a fouled bag should never be allowed to exceed 70 kPa before bag changeout.

Maximum operating temperature for polypropylene bags is 60º C and that for polyester bags is 80ºC

All type BIB filter bags are fitted with a mouldedpolypropylene Posi-Seal bag mount to ensure a bypass-free seal between bag and housing.

Vacuum Dehydrator

Vacuum dehydration is a method of removing free water and water moisture from lubricating or transformer oils. The technology allows for water to “boil” and steam away, without chemically deteriorating or oxidising the oil. Our systems are fully automated and designed to strip away all moisture at a low operating temperature of 50ºC

The Filter Focus vacuum dehydration system is highly efficient and can remove up to 50L of water per day under normal operating conditions.

Features

  • Rapid removal of all water, gasses and acids
  • High efficiency demulsifying properties
  • Self-contained, fully automated, Filter Focus One touch Control System
  • Online operation, condition and revive your oil without shutting down, draining oil or experiencing lost production

The value of this product to Mining, Industrial and Production plants is tremendous, as it greatly extends useful oil life, while protecting lubricated components in turbines, gearboxes, lubricating and hydraulic systems. The Vacuum Dehydrator has been proven to perform well beyond any other competitor product, and is particularly well suited for online transformer purification."

Filter Focus is able to ensure vastly extended lifecycles of lubricated and rotating equipment. An additional benefit is dramatic reductions in oil consumption and the associated disposal costs thereof.

Water contamination in lubricated systems promotes oxidation; compromises lubricity and can lead to failures in components such as bearings and shaft journals, as well as the jamming of mechanisms such as pilot valves, trip cylinders and hydraulic pistons. Additives are contained in oil to improve lubricating properties. "These additives can, however, be washed out or removed by water contamination, chemically     altering and leaving the oil underperforming.”

In numerous tests run by Filter Focus on the Vacuum Dehydrator and oil purification system, results have been impressive. During a recent evaluation at Hulamin in Pietermaritzburg, we addressed hydraulic oil with 34% water content on a 2000L static tank. Within three days of operation and independent verification and oil analysis through Engen Fluidlink, the levels were reduced to 0.00% water content.

Another evaluation conducted by a TSB sugar production plant in Malelane, identified 22.5% water, in an operational turbine. (with continuous water ingress) The 5000L oil reservoir was dehydrated and purified while in operation, achieving 0.00% water content.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

  • Wet or emulsified oil is drawn into the System under vacuum.
  • The  first  chamber  is  a  quiet   zone; leading  to thermostat controlled heaters  and  from  there, into  the vacuum separator underlow pressure, low humidity conditions.
  • This provides the ideal environment to quickly and effectively evaporate dissolved water and gasses.
  • All vapors and gasses enter into the condensation unit and are released into the water receiver.
  • Cleaner, dryer oil is passed back to the oil tank.
  • Dependent on volume of water contamination, multiple passes may be required to achieve target dehydration levels.
  • Automated water dump, no operator required
